Process: Kantha & Chindi

To create the fabrics featured in EDITION 002, 11.11 worked with highly skilled artisans whose heritage techniques are deeply rooted in Indian textile traditions. Learn more about the process below.

Kantha is hand-quilted by a collective of master craftswomen in the Kutch region of India. Using leftover pieces of hand-spun, hand-loomed cotton, they delicately patch, quilt and embroider in curved patterns, creating visual harmony by complementing the natural shape of each fabric.

Chindi is hand-embroidered by Azad, whose practice is equal parts improvisational art and seasoned technique. Working with smaller cloth fragments, he starts with a single piece, slowly adding them one at a time until the finished cloth takes shape.
