Stòffa presents a series of vintage deadstock sunglasses by F.O.C.A. Crafted in Cadore, Italy in the 1960s. Curated and prepared in collaboration with Lucio Stramare and his talented team of restorers.
Together we have carefully sorted, curated and finished a series of F.O.C.A. sunglasses for EDITION 004. Each frame has gone through rigorous testing before being mounted with state-of-the-art ZEISS lenses and marked with a Stòffa seal.
- Limited quantities available
- Specially aged cellulose acetate frame.
- Monel / Alpaca alloy core wire in temples.
- CR39 lenses with UV protection and AR coating.
- 5 barrel hinges with pressure tested original rivets.
Cellulose acetate at F.O.C.A. was cured and aged (stagionato). After being heated and set, it was allowed to rest for months like a fine cheese or wine. This process stabilized the acetate, forming a dense consistency which lends a rich, substantial hand and helps the frames retain their shape through heavy wear and high temperatures.
F.O.C.A. di Cadore
This small region in the Dolomites was the birthplace of Italian eyewear design and production. In the 18th century, the first glasses were crafted here using revolutionary lenses made by Venetian glass artisans. Cadore was home to the first Italian eyewear company, launched in the late 19th century by Angelo Frescura, Leone Frescura and Giovanni Lozza. By the early 20th century, 90% of all eyewear produced in Italy was made in Cadore. The end of WWII brought a period of groundbreaking innovation and unbounded positivity, and marked the birth of F.O.C.A. - Fabbrica Occhiali Celluloidi e Affini.
